Your root canal Edinburgh journey
A root canal Edinburgh is a treatment that involves the complete removal of the infected or inflamed pulp that is found within your tooth, spreading from the crown through to the root. This pulp is full of nerves and blood vessels, but is not necessary to the integrity of your tooth once it has fully matured.
If one of your teeth has become compromised due to the pulp becoming infected, then we can save it by performing this root canal Edinburgh treatment. It is important to try to save your natural teeth because nothing else really compares to them. Once you have lost an adult tooth, there is no replacing it, although false teeth are used to ensure you can still smile with confidence and eat adequately well.
If you have been told that you need a root canal Edinburgh, then perhaps you would like to understand the generic journey that our patients go through, so that you can be empowered with this knowledge.
Understand that each patient’s journey is somewhat different because everyone is unique and we treat you in a bespoke manner, but the treatment itself is essentially the same. It can be comforting to many, especially nervous patients, to understand what is expected of them and what they are to anticipate when having this treatment done.
Your journey to a healthier smile
After a referral to us from your dentist, or if you don’t have a dentist you can refer yourself to us, you will be contacted to undergo a 20 minute online consultation at a time that is most convenient for you. During this time, you can ask questions that you may have and we will tell you what we know about your tooth history and the process that we will need to go through together in order to bring this story around to achieve a happy ending.
If you’re nervous about the impending procedure, then let us know so that we can arrange for sedation to be available during the treatment. This is in the form of a gas which just leaves you feeling relaxed whilst still conscious as we perform the treatment.
Your first visit to our dental practice follows this, where you will fill out a questionnaire in our welcoming and relaxing waiting room that is calming and professional. Once invited into the procedure room where our dentist will come out personally to meet you before bringing you through, we take X-rays and scans, talk you through the procedure in person and with your permission, begin the treatment to remove the infected pulp in the tooth that is causing concern.
The aftercare will be taken over by your dentist again, or if you have gone directly through us, then we will work with you through this. There will be close contact between us and your dentist with all information regarding the process and the outcome of the procedure documented.
You do not have to do anything but follow our aftercare instructions, look after yourself and bring yourself to necessary follow up appointments at the relevant practice, so that we all can monitor the healing of your tooth if required.
